Ready for a New Year!

Christmas Eve turned out to be such a nice day with some sunshine and 5 degree Celcius temperatures so we decided to take a walk down at the Marina to get some fresh air.

This resident bald eagle was standing watch on top of one of the sailboat masts.

There was even one brave kayaker (brave or foolhardy, not sure) out - way too cold for us to kayak.  If you ended up in the water you would have hypothermia in no time.  There is snow on the mountains above our valley, and our ski hill which is only 30 minutes away has opened with 120 centimeter base.  Hard to believe there is that much snow up there as we have not had any snow at all, but lots of frosty days this winter so far.

We had a very nice Christmas full of lots of treats, presents and loads of food.  I feel a bit strange now though - really ready to move on to a new year.   Traditionally I pack up Christmas decorations on January 1 but this year I really wanted to do it sooner - but hubby begged me to keep them up so they will stay up until Thursday.  I don't know what 2015 will bring - it is difficult to plan anything right now so we will just take one day at a time.

  2. I'm very jealous that you're so close to skiing! We keep trying to figure out a way to get on the slopes without driving 4+ hours or flying. No luck!

    1. The funny part is - we don't ski! I like the fact that if we ever miss the snow (unlikely) we can just drive to it in wintertime :)

    1. They chatter too - I now know what an eagle sounds like when it is talking to its mates. I love how the feathers on the back of his head look in the shadow - thanks!

  6. The view is breathtaking! You are a lucky lady to be able to see this. Here is Quebec all the boats are dry docked for the winter.
This is the first time I see an up close bald eagle!

    1. You need to come visit - we see them almost every day by the estuary or even flying overtop my home. We are so lucky to live where we live but do need to get to Quebec one day - preferably summertime :)

  10. Happy New Years from across the strait. I love my Christmas decorations, even though my display is a small one. I will take ours down when we get back from our Southern California trip. I have to be honest, we love the lights so much they get to stay up all year long. The ones at the cabin are solar powered, which helps us save one our cabin power supply. - Margy

    1. We got some great solar lights to light the area by our hottub - so powerful! I need to get some powerful string lights for outside now too. Happy New Years to you too Margy!

  12. I was ready to take down my decorations on Boxing Day but gritted my teeth and left them. However by 7am this morning I had gathered them all on the dining room table and plan to bring up the bins later this morning and put them away. When Christmas is done it's done and I want to move on. Whatever 2015 brings us it's sure to be interesting - can't wait to see what your year is like!!

    1. I think in past years were were away for a bit so only saw them for a couple of weeks. This year as we were home the whole time I was ready to see them go. Next year I think I will hold off on decorating later if we stay home the whole month. I hope 2015 brings us both happiness, and exciting adventures!
